Yesterday, 23.10.2009, I spoke to Sr.Rose, the Incharge of Maternity ward, about the practicality of the 'Angelica Mission' . Sisiter was delighted and tocuhed to heard of our concern about the poor babies being born. She mentioned that sometimes the family don;t even have a cloth to drape over the baby. Most use the 'lungi' they are in to hold the baby. I felt very sad for the plight of these children. Imagine, a child just born, didn;t even have a new piece of cloth to receive it with .
Sister said that an average of 5 (!) poor infants were born a day !! Which I quickly calculated to be 150 per month !!!
Sister suggested that a soft baby wrap, nappies , soap & baby gown would be sufficient.
